Description
These crispy cheddar jalapeño poppers are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that combines the spicy crunch of jalapeños with creamy, melted cheese. Perfect for parties or cozy nights in!
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 large jalapeños, halved and seeded
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/2 cup flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Start by preheating your oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. While that heats, cut your jalapeños in half lengthwise and carefully remove the seeds.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and set aside.
- Using a small spoon or a piping bag, fill each jalapeño half with the cheese mixture, packing it in generously.
- Set up a dredging station with three bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs. First, dip each stuffed jalapeño into the flour, then the egg, and finally coat it in breadcrumbs. Repeat until all poppers are coated.
- Once your oil is hot, carefully place the poppers into the oil. Fry them in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Notes
For a healthier option, you can bake these poppers at 400°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes instead of frying.
