Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and diced
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for cinnamon sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for cinnamon sugar)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add the melted butter, eggs, and the frothy yeast mixture.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing the softened cream cheese, diced strawberries, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until well combined.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.
  7. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture all over the top.
  8. Evenly spread the cream cheese filling over the cinnamon sugar layer.
  9. Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal it, then cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
  10. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, cover with a towel, and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  13. Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for a few minutes before drizzling with icing.

Notes
