Description

This Ultimate French Onion Beef Stroganoff recipe combines classic flavors with a modern twist, making it a go-to meal for busy weeknights. The creamy sauce and tender beef are an instant hit.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth (homemade or low-sodium store-bought)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)
  • 8 ounces of egg noodles or your favorite pasta

Instructions

  1. Start by boiling water in a large pot. Once it’s boiling, add a pinch of salt and your pasta. Cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 10-15 minutes until they’re golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the onions and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Push the onions and garlic to the side of the skillet. Add the sliced beef to the pan and season with salt and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the beef and stir to coat.
  6. Pour in the beef broth slowly, stirring to combine everything. Bring it to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, and stir in the sour cream until it’s fully incorporated. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  8. Finally, toss the cooked pasta into the sauce, ensuring everything is well coated.
  9. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh thyme if desired.

Notes

Don’t rush the onions; caramelizing them takes time for the best flavor. You can personalize the dish by adding mushrooms or a splash of red wine.
